Andy just sent me a late season wrap up from Texas.

Thanks Andy

Just thought I would rehash mine and David’s season finally here in Texas.
We traveled to the Chappell Hill State Road Race with a fellow racer/ international reggae recording artist John T. I., which is always an experience.
An early start time had us on the road at 5:30 a.m. so I had to drive Davids Subaru 100 miles an hour down I-10 while those two kept sleeping.
The pre-race hustle ensued and we all managed to get to the start on time. Sweet! Thanks to my keen driving.
All the key players in the Texas scene were present.
We take off, then the waiting game began as some of the teams started to mix things up a bit in the 90 mile five lap race. We stayed close to the action but knew nothing was getting away with a group like we had and a state title on the line.
After David lit it up a few times and was stringing out the 85+ field, there was a brief lull that sparked John Koriath, Team Six (Masters Nat, Champ) and Steve Wheeler(Super Squadra) along with MSU rider Collin Davis to open a small gap of maybe 15 seconds.
Not having many options, I decide to attack the field on a small hill and bridge to the three guy’s. Once I made contact I kept the gas on and before we knew it we had put two minutes on the pack.
Everyone was working really well together and we still had 40+ miles to go. Then came the wind!
I was the only little guy in the break and I told “College” I would be no help on the flats, so I made sure to give those guy’s my best on the climbs. We kept it together as the laps rolled by, but every time we hit the feed zone someone would make a little move that caused me to miss every single hand up and this proved to be the nail in my coffin!
Final lap, ten miles to go, the final feed was three miles away and the “wheels” fell completely off . BONK !!!!!
As I did my best to regain some dignity, I waited for the chase group, now about 15 strong which David was in, I was reeled in. I tried to yell at David but it was useless. I was only able to sit on the back of that group until the feed zone then it was lights out. Stars etc…
Collin crashes, leaving College and Wheeler to duke it out all the way to the finish.
Wheeler gets the win, David pulls into town with a 12th place finish and I catch a ride with Crozzy and Will Ross.
And thats the story of two small riders against the BIG state of Texas.
I hope we can get some redemption at the Tour of New Braunfels.
Peace.

Dave and Andy are great to have around. Andy can always lighten the mood and somehow always is best friends with the locals after 20 minutes, give him an hour and people are offering money so he can play some songs in the Jute Box. Dave is really good on the road. Helped me a lot in the Gila wilderness as the only other cat. 2 willing to brave the climbs. Thanks Dave! He also put up with me on the road while we traveled around New England, into Wisconsin and through Texas.

Cheers,
